Special rules & exceptions
- Referred visa category (no visa on arrival; apply online and wait for approval from the Commissioner General of Immigration before travelling, at least two months ahead): AF, BD, BF, TD, ER, GN, GW, IR, IQ, KG, LB, ML, MR, NE, PK, PS, SO, SY, SL, TJ, TM, UZ, YE, plus stateless persons and refugees (eVisa portal guidelines §8). Nigeria was removed from this category with immediate effect on 25 September 2026 under the Immigration (Visa) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 (GN No. 246 of 2026); Nigerians now use the standard eVisa or visa-on-arrival procedure.
- Residents of East African Community (EAC) or SADC partner states are exempt from the Mainland inbound travel insurance (GN No. 256, reg. 3). The exemption follows country of residence, not nationality.
- Staying in Mainland Tanzania beyond 92 days needs a new or extended NIC policy before the first one runs out (GN No. 256, reg. 5(3)).
